Passkeys

A passkey lets you sign in by looking at your iPad, touching a fingerprint sensor, typing your device PIN, or tapping a security key. There's nothing to remember and nothing to type.

Add a passkey

You need to be signed in on the device you're adding.

1. Open Admin → Security. Members don't see the admin menu: go to laberty.app/admin/security instead.
2. Type a name for the device, like "My iPad".
3. Tap Add a passkey and follow your device's prompt.

Add one on each device you use. The list shows each passkey, when it was last used, and whether it's "synced to your account" (Apple and Google passkeys can follow you to your other devices) or "this device only".

If the button is greyed out, your browser doesn't support passkeys. Try Safari on an iPhone or iPad, or Chrome or Edge on a computer.

Sign in with a passkey

On the sign-in page, tap Use a passkey and follow the prompt. No email is needed.

Why passkeys are the best way in

• They can't be phished. A passkey only works on the site it was made for, so a lookalike website gets nothing.
• They're strong on their own. A passkey proves you have the device and can unlock it. That's why Laberty doesn't ask for an authenticator code after a passkey.
• They're the easiest. For someone who finds typing on a tablet hard, looking at the screen to sign in is a big help.

A passkey belongs to the web address it was made on. Make it at the address you'll use to sign in, which is laberty.app.

Removing a passkey

On the Security page, press Remove next to it. You can always add it again.

If you lose the device

• Sign in another way, with an email link or another passkey.
• On the Security page, remove the passkey for the lost device.
• A synced passkey comes back when you sign in to your Apple or Google account on a new device.
