Set up grocery mode on your phone
Get your personal grocery link onto your phone, add it to the home screen on iPhone or Android, and replace or turn off the link if it ever gets out.
Grocery mode lets you scan barcodes or photograph products in the store without signing in. It opens straight to your current grocery batch on your phone. It comes with a personal link: one link for your workspace, that nobody else has.
Set it up
- On a computer or phone, sign in and open Admin → Food Labels → Grocery mode.
- Press Set up grocery mode on your phone.
- Get the link onto your phone. Point your phone's camera at the QR code, or press Send it to my phone (it emails the link to your own address, and only yours).
- Open the link on your phone. You do not need to sign in.
- Add it to your home screen (below), so it is one tap away in the store.
Add it to your home screen
iPhone (use Safari)
- Open the link in Safari. Other browsers on iPhone cannot add it to the home screen.
- Tap the Share button, the square with an arrow pointing up.
- Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen.
- Tap Add.
Android (use Chrome)
- Open the link in Chrome.
- Tap the menu, the three dots at the top right.
- Tap Add to Home screen, or Install app if that is what you see.
- Tap Add.
The link's own page also shows these steps, in a box you can close, until you add it or dismiss it.
This link is your key
Anyone who has the link can add items to your grocery batch, and photo lookups use your AI actions, so treat it like a house key and don't post it anywhere. Everything else (looking products up, dates, printing, deleting) stays behind your sign-in.
- Replace this link gives you a brand new one. The old link stops working straight away, so use this if the link is ever shared by mistake. Then save the new one on your phone.
- Turn off disables the link until you turn it back on. Nobody can open it in the meantime, including you.
Links made before September 2026 were shorter. They keep working until you replace them, and replacing gives you a much stronger one.
Limits that keep it safe
- A batch holds up to 300 items, and the link takes up to 500 new items a day.
- Photo lookups are limited to 30 an hour and 100 a day. Past that, the page says so and you can still scan barcodes or type names.
- Photo lookups count as AI actions on your plan, like any other AI use. See AI actions and packs.
- Laberty emails the owner once a day if a limit is reached, so you can replace the link if it wasn't you.
The old /grocery address
Earlier, the address /grocery opened grocery mode for the first workspace. It no longer opens anything for a signed-out visitor. If you had it saved on your phone, open Set up grocery mode on your phone once, follow the steps above with the new link, and remove the old shortcut.
