Bring your own AI keys
Run Laberty's AI on your own Anthropic, OpenAI, Gemini or Grok account, so it never counts against your included actions.
Every plan can use your own AI keys. Once they're added, Laberty's AI features run on your account with the AI provider, not on Laberty's. Your usage doesn't count against your included actions, and Laberty doesn't cap it.
Get a key from the provider
You need an API key, which is different from a chat subscription such as ChatGPT Plus or Claude Pro. Make one in the provider's developer console:
- Anthropic (Claude): console.anthropic.com
- OpenAI (ChatGPT): platform.openai.com
The provider bills you for what you use, at their rates. It's usually pennies.
Add your keys
- Go to Admin → Users.
- Find Your own AI keys (optional).
- Paste your Anthropic API key, your OpenAI API key, or both.
- Press Save keys.
The card then shows which keys are set, by their last four characters. Leave a field blank to keep the key you already saved. Remove keys puts everything back on Laberty's included actions.
Gemini and Grok
Google Gemini and xAI Grok run on your own keys only.
- Business includes them.
- On Free and Home, unlock them with the More AIs: Gemini & Grok add-on on Admin → Billing, or from the add-ons table on the pricing page. It's a one-time $9 at launch pricing, and it unlocks as soon as checkout finishes.
Once unlocked, fields for a Google Gemini API key and an xAI Grok API key appear in the same card. After you save one, that provider shows up as a choice in each person's AI model menu.
Choosing the model per person
Every account on Admin → Users has an AI model menu. Leave it on Auto, or pick a provider for that person. The member and the admins can use different ones.
Keeping your keys safe
- Only admins can open the Users page, and it shows just the last four characters of each key.
- Make a key just for Laberty, and set a spending limit on it at the provider. Then you can see what Laberty uses, and switch the key off at the provider at any time.
- The Activity log (Admin → Activity log) still shows each AI call and its estimated cost, so you can compare it with the provider's bill.
